FolioDynamix, a provider of web-based wealth management technology, has entered into a multi-year agreement with PriceMetrix that will give its clients access to transaction and fee pricing information. Transactional pricing and fee information from advisors’ peers, powered by PriceMetrix’s CommissionCheck and FeeCheck products, will be fed into the FDx SingleSight wealth management platform . Using the platform, advisors will be able to access the information within the workflow of the order entry system, for transactional business, or at the time of proposal generation for fee-based business.

What can Michael Lewis’s “Moneyball” theory teach the retail wealth management industry? The theory – coined in Lewis’s book, Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, and later adapted into a movie starring Brad Pitt – centers on a small baseball team, Oakland A, competing with its much larger rivals. While it could never match the depth of its rivals’ wallets, the team found a way of identifying underpriced players through statistical analysis . This identified metrics that were good predictors of performance and yet weren’t valued in the selection procedure.

Robert W Baird & Co has struck a multi-year agreement with PriceMetrix aimed at enhancing productivity at its wealth management division. The agreement allows Baird advisors to access PriceMetrix CommissionCheck, a subscription service that provides real-time pricing comparables for equity commission trades, enabling advisors to price trades at market levels . “PriceMetrix's data and insight into equity commission pricing will help our advisors confidently achieve pricing that reflects the value they deliver to their clients," said Matt Curley, chief operating officer for Baird Private Wealth Management.

Advisors are focusing on larger, more productive households in the North American retail wealth management market, with the average number of households per advisor dropping 8 per cent in 2011, according to a new US study. Despite signs of a focus on quality business, overall growth in 2011 was weak in the retail wealth management industry, according to a report by PriceMetrix . Average advisor revenue grew 1 per cent to $537,000, but assets under management dropped from $79 million in 2010 to $74 million last year.
